How Long Does a Landscape Design and Build Project Take?

Project timelines vary based on scope, complexity, and weather.

Design Phase Timeline

Design typically takes 1-3 weeks, depending on revisions and project size. At Landscape Creative Design Build, we have our own process:

Step 1: Discovery Call - this is when we will discuss your wants, needs, and rough budget for a design build project. This call is also used to make sure we are a good fit for each other!

Step 2: On-Site Meeting - this is when we will walk the property and get into more detail about what kind of potential your space has for your project goals. We also reiterate a rough budget talk now that we are getting into more detail.

Step 3: Design & Budget Review Meeting - the fun stuff! At this point, LCDB has put in the hours of hard work to do site visits, grading exercises, case study review, conceptual designs for your space, etc. This is when we review the conceptual design, with coinciding budget, for your custom project. After this meeting, the vision will be CLEAR, and we'll know whether we need to make some slight revisions to the plan and/or budget to give you the perfect custom space.

Permitting Phase Timeline (if needed)

Whether your project needs to be permitted depends on your city/county code ordinance. Some example of when permitting may be necessary are when you're building retaining walls, pools, patios, decks, etc.

In the metro Atlanta area places like Milton, Alpharetta, Roswell, and Cumming are likely an easier place ot get big projects permitted, as compared to the City of Atlanta or City of Sandy Springs. Permitting may take up to 12 weeks in those harder to permit locations.

This is why it's important to get an early start on project design for your space! Want to be swimming in the summer? Get designing in the Winter. Want to level out your yard for your kids to play this spring? Get designing in the fall. It's always better to plan ahead! Construction Phase Timeline

Construction may be as quick as a week-long project for something small like a front yard foundation planting or small fire pit patio. When we get into retaining walls, pools, large outdoor patios, etc. your project could take several weeks to months to complete. Another reason to plan ahead and get your designing out of the way in the fall/winter if you'd like to enjoy your space in the spring/summer!
